Wintersleep's sixth album and first for Dine Alone, home to the No. 1 alternative single "Amerika" and a guest turn from Geddy Lee on "Territory".
"Amerika" went to No. 1 on both the Canadian alternative and rock charts, and Rush's Geddy Lee plays on "Territory". The album reached No. 19 in Canada.
The Great Detachment arrived in March 2016, four years after Hello Hum and some fifteen years into Wintersleep's run, and it was the Halifax band's first record for Toronto's Dine Alone. "Amerika" opened it and set the tone: a tight, urgent rock song with a political edge that radio picked up and would not let go.
The rest of the LP moves between that drive and something more reflective ("Santa Fe", "Spirit", the long build of "Shadowless"), and the guests are chosen with care. Geddy Lee's bass on "Territory" is a quiet thrill for anyone who grew up on Rush.
Wintersleep sound just as fresh and creative as they did 6 albums ago.
