Critical Hit, Yukon Blonde's 2018 synth-bright fourth album with "Too Close To Love" and "Love The Way You Are", on Dine Alone vinyl.
Yukon Blonde's 2018 record trades some of the guitars for vintage synths and a pop sheen, from "Too Close To Love" to the nine-minute closer "Ritual Off The Docks". Thirteen songs about love and life online.
Critical Hit arrived in June 2018, and the band described it as a reaction to the times: "The internet has made everyone go crazy, and human relationships have taken a beating." The songs answer that with warmth and a lot of hooks, built on synths like the E-mu Emulator that drives "Hardly Even There".
Some of it started as accidents. "Dear Nancy" grew from a phone recording of a rehearsal jam and kept its home-recorded vocal when the band re-tracked it with Thomas D'Arcy, and "Painting On A Smile" was written on a MIDI keyboard while the band was in Spain.
