White vinyl of Heaven, the second Dilly Dally album, produced by Rob Schnapf in Los Angeles and scored 82 on Metacritic.
White vinyl of the album that almost didn't happen. Dilly Dally came close to splitting after touring Sore, regrouped, and made Heaven with producer Rob Schnapf; it scored 82 on Metacritic.
Long tours behind 2015's Sore left the Toronto band frayed. Katie Monks retreated for months, bought a white Flying V and made ambient loops; Liz Ball spent early 2017 on a solo EP and decided she wanted one more Dilly Dally record.
They shaped Monks' riffs and drones into songs through summer and fall 2017, then recorded with Schnapf in Los Angeles that November. "I Feel Free" opens the LP like a resurrection, and "Sober Motel" faces the addiction struggles that had shaken the band.
The ability to maintain a coherent sound and direction is impressive.
