About the album

Kacey Musgraves did her apprenticeship the long way round: three independently issued western swing albums in Austin, a turn on Nashville Star, demo singing for other people's songs and co-writing for Martina McBride and Miranda Lambert. By the time Mercury Nashville signed her in 2012, she knew exactly what kind of songs she wanted to sing.

Same Trailer Different Park is small-town Texas seen up close: working people, dead-end routines and quiet moments of clarity, told with a wink and a lump in the throat at the same time. Musgraves wrote with Brandy Clark, Shane McAnally, Luke Laird and Josh Osborne, and co-produced with Laird and McAnally, mixing midtempo country with pop, rockabilly and folk. "Merry Go 'Round" is a wry, gentle portrait of going in circles, "Silver Lining" opens with hope, "Blowin' Smoke" spends a shift with diner waitresses, and "Keep It to Yourself" is a beautifully understated goodbye.

"Follow Your Arrow" picked up Song of the Year at the CMA Awards, and "Merry Go 'Round" won a Grammy of its own. Not bad for a debut about staying put.
