About the album

Luke Combs recorded Growin' Up and Gettin' Old at the same time, then put them out about nine months apart, with covers designed to sit side by side. Gettin' Old arrived in March 2023, produced by Combs with Chip Matthews and Jonathan Singleton. Combs co-wrote 15 of the songs and called it an album about the stage of life he's in right now, loving where things are while looking back on how they used to be.

Lead single "Love You Anyway" and "Where the Wild Things Are" set the tone, songs about getting a little older, staying a little put and loving the people who stuck around, and "5 Leaf Clover" and "The Part" carry it home. Then there's "Fast Car." His faithful, big-hearted cover climbed higher on the Hot 100 than the 1988 original, topped country radio, won CMA Single of the Year and earned Chapman the CMA Song of the Year, making her the first Black songwriter to win a CMA Award.

It brought a whole new audience to one of the great songs. Combs started a world tour the day after the album came out, which is a very energetic way to celebrate a record called Gettin' Old.
