Colter Wall's 2025 honky-tonk album Memories And Empties, with "1800 Miles," "4/4 Time" and the title track.
This EU pressing on La Honda and RCA brings the Saskatchewan singer's fifth album home on vinyl. It's his most country record yet, ten songs of heartbreak and barroom balladry.
Colter Wall has spent a decade singing about cattle, open plains and the work that goes with them. On Memories And Empties he walks into town, orders something, and sings about the heart instead. The baritone is the same deep, gravel-road voice from Swift Current, Saskatchewan; the setting is a honky tonk with sawdust on the floor.
He wrote nine of the ten songs and produced them with Patrick Lyons, leaning on pedal steel and fiddle. "1800 Miles" opens with a long drive and a longer memory, "My Present Just Gets Past Me" catches the odd way time moves after a breakup, and "It's Getting So (That A Man Can't Go Into Town Just To Have Him A Drink)" is the liveliest thing here, despite needing a deep breath to announce. "4/4 Time" and "The Longer You Hold On" are pure dance-hall country, and he closes with "Summer Wages," a song by fellow Canadian Ian Tyson.
It came out in November 2025, two years after Little Songs, and sits comfortably beside the old Western records he loves. Wall still sounds about forty years older than his birth certificate, which in country music counts as a qualification.
