Colter Wall's 2015 debut EP Imaginary Appalachia on red vinyl, with "Sleeping on the Blacktop" and "The Devil Wears a Suit and Tie."
The Saskatchewan baritone's debut, recorded when he was barely 20, features the song from Hell or High Water and guests the Dead South, here on red vinyl.
When a voice that deep comes out of a 19-year-old from Swift Current, Saskatchewan, people stop and listen. Colter Wall made Imaginary Appalachia in 2015, and its seven songs announced a country and western storyteller who sounded like he'd been riding the rails for fifty years.
"Sleeping on the Blacktop" turned up in the film Hell or High Water and found him a whole new audience. Fellow prairie Canadians the Dead South join him on "Johnny Boy's Bones," Belle Plaine sings on "Caroline," and "The Devil Wears a Suit and Tie" is a dusty, menacing outlaw tale.
It set the stage for Songs of the Plains and everything since, and it's still where many fans fell for him.
