Why you'll love it

Definitely Maybe went straight to No. 1 in the U.K., became the fastest-selling debut album in British history at the time and has gone 10x platinum there. "Live Forever," "Supersonic," "Cigarettes & Alcohol" and "Slide Away" all live here, and NME readers once voted it the greatest album ever.

This edition

  • 2LP set, 12 tracks over four sides
  • Big Brother pressing (cat# RKIDLP70)

About the album

Grunge had the whole world staring at its shoes in 1994. Then five lads from Manchester showed up with Noel Gallagher's songbook, Liam Gallagher's sneer and absolutely zero interest in being miserable about any of it.

Definitely Maybe took some doing (the band scrapped two rounds of sessions before Owen Morris finally wrestled the mix into shape) but the result is a wall of joyous, overdriven guitar anthems with tunes big enough to fill a stadium. It kick-started Britpop, it rescued British rock from its own gloom, and "Live Forever" still sounds like the best idea anyone ever had. It's also the only Oasis album with all five original members on every track, if you're keeping score at home.
