Polaris Music Prize-winning second album from Saguenay's masked math-rock duo, with "Fabienk," "Mata Zyklek" and "Sarniezz." On Spectacles Bonzaï.
Vol. II won the 2026 Polaris Music Prize, and "Fabienk" took the SOCAN Polaris Song Prize the same night. Exclaim! handed it a perfect 10, its first since 2023. This is the record that turned two guys in giant papier-mâché noses into the hottest band in the country.
Angine de Poitrine come from Saguenay, Quebec, and they come in disguise: two anonymous players in oversized papier-mâché masks with enormous noses and black-and-white polka-dot bodysuits, a gag they've called "Andy Kaufman-esque." Then they start playing and the joke turns into something else entirely.
Their four-song 2025 session for Seattle's KEXP racked up millions of views, and Vol. II cashes that cheque in style. Six mostly instrumental tracks take the twitchy time signatures of prog and math rock and make them groove so hard you'll find yourself dancing to music that has no business being danceable. Relive the madness of that KEXP set with "Fabienk," "Mata Zyklek" and "Sarniezz," then flip it over for "Yor Zarad." The Polaris jury clearly had the same reaction we did.
"managed to take some of the unsexiest music in history and give it the type of groove that renders it undeniable"
