Jeff Buckley's one and only studio album casts a long shadow. Lucky for us, we'll always have... Grace. On Columbia/Legacy.
Buckley's version of "Hallelujah" sits in the Library of Congress's National Recording Registry, and Rolling Stone counts both the album and the song among the greatest ever. Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and David Bowie all sang its praises.
Jeff Buckley never got to make the follow-up to 1994's Grace, but history has been kind to the late singer-songwriter's one-and-only studio album and it casts a long shadow over many artists who've followed in his wake.
Critics and the public in general took their time warming up to Grace when it first arrived, although the album's rather original mix of emotive high-register vocals and gnarly guitar grit soon accrued a cult following amongst sensitive girls and boys the world over. Its reputation has only grown since. Buckley did his part to preserve Canadian content for the ages, too; in 2014, his version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" was added to the American Library of Congress's National Recording Registry.
