About the album

Before the stadiums, the confetti cannons and the light-up wristbands, there was this: four university mates from London making quiet, moody, melodic songs with producer Ken Nelson and not much else. Parachutes is a small record that went very, very big.

"Yellow" did most of the heavy lifting, but "Shiver," "Trouble" and "Don't Panic" kept it company on the radio, and "Sparks" found a whole new generation on TikTok two decades later. Will Champion once compared the songs to Lou Reed's "Perfect Day": happy lyrics, sad music. That push and pull is exactly why Parachutes still sounds so good on a rainy afternoon.
