About the album

Post Malone told Howard Stern back in 2022 that nothing was stopping him from setting up in his Utah studio and recording a country album. He warmed up with a Joe Diffie re-recording and a spot on Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter, then headed to Nashville and did it properly, with producers Louis Bell, Charlie Handsome and Hoskins.

The guest list reads like a CMA ballot, with Tim McGraw on "Wrong Ones," Hank Williams Jr. on "Finer Things," Blake Shelton on "Pour Me a Drink," Dolly Parton on "Have the Heart," Luke Combs on "Guy for That," Chris Stapleton on "California Sober" and Billy Strings on "M-E-X-I-C-O," plus Lainey Wilson, Jelly Roll and Sierra Ferrell. Malone loved watching Nashville's session players chart a voice memo and nail it on the first pass. It's a country record with a bit of country pop shine, played by Nashville's finest session pickers, steel guitarist Paul Franklin among them.

He said the writing sessions often ran till six in the morning, with a room full of friends who weren't necessarily there to write, just to jam and hang out. Judging by the credits, it was a very well-attended sleepover.
