About the album

Every country star has a before picture, and this is Morgan Wallen's. Back in 2015, a few years ahead of the stadiums, the Tennessee singer cut Stand Alone for Panacea Records with producer Paul Trust, writing the songs with Trust and Sergio Sanchez. It was a small, independent start for a singer who would go on to become one of the biggest names in modern country, and these songs show where the sound began.

The deluxe edition adds the songs left over from those sessions to the original five, so you can hear him working out his sound across a dozen tracks. "Going Down" and "Got It Made" lean rock, "Man of the South" plants the flag, "Heaven Can Take a Backseat" and "Sleep When We're Dead" ride on big choruses, and the title track shows the voice that would soon fill arenas.

Panacea issued this edition in January 2024, a little ahead of the ten-year mark, and it carried Stand Alone onto the Billboard 200. Ten years is a long time to wait for an encore, but country fans are a patient lot.
