An 18-song Édith Piaf collection on 180g vinyl, from "La Vie En Rose" and "Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien" to "Milord," "Padam, Padam" and "Hymne À L'amour."
This limited edition puts 18 Piaf songs on one 180g LP, pressed in the EU. It gathers her signature songs from "L'accordéoniste" in 1940 to "Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien" in 1960.
Édith Piaf began her career touring with her father at fourteen, and in 1935 a Paris club owner named Louis Leplée heard her and brought her indoors. From there she became France's most popular entertainer and, by most accounts, its greatest popular singer, a tiny figure with a voice that could fill the Paris Olympia.
Her songs were often autobiographical, chanson réaliste and torch ballads about love and loss sung as if every word cost something. She wrote the lyrics to "La Vie En Rose" herself in 1945, and it became her signature. "Hymne À L'amour" soars, "La Foule" whirls like a crowd at a fairground, "Milord" is pure theatre, "Padam, Padam" follows a melody she can't shake, and "Sous Le Ciel De Paris" is a postcard you can hear. "Les Trois Cloches" and "Mon Dieu" show the tender side.
She made eight appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show and toured Europe, South America and the United States, and the 2007 film La Vie en Rose won an Academy Award. Some voices need no translation; this is the one we play when someone asks for French lessons on a budget.
