Ali, Vieux Farka Touré and Khruangbin's 2022 tribute to Malian guitar legend Ali Farka Touré: "Savanne," "Lobbo" and "Diarabi." On marmalade vinyl.
Ali is a gorgeous meeting of desert blues and Khruangbin's laid-back grooves, honouring one of Africa's greatest guitarists with songs from his catalogue.
Malian guitarist and singer Vieux Farka Touré teamed up with Houston trio Khruangbin to reinterpret songs by his father, the legendary Ali Farka Touré. Vieux's fluid guitar and voice meet Mark Speer's reverb-soaked lines, Laura Lee's melodic bass and DJ Johnson's understated drums.
"Savanne" glides along hypnotically, "Lobbo" and "Diarabi" shimmer with desert-blues magic, and the whole album has a warm, transporting glow. Perfect for a sunny afternoon.
