Khruangbin & Leon Bridges: Texas Moon (EP) [DEAD OCEANS]

Why you'll love it

After Texas Sun became a sleeper hit, the Houston trio and the Fort Worth crooner reunited for this moonlit follow-up. "B-Side" is one of the grooviest things either act has ever made.

This edition

About the EP

When Leon Bridges and Khruangbin made Texas Sun in 2020, it was supposed to be a one-off, a souvenir of a tour together. But the songs took on a life of their own, so in 2022 they went back to the studio for the night-time half of the story. Texas Moon is moodier and a little more mysterious than its sunny sibling, five songs that feel like a slow drive home under a big Texas sky.

Khruangbin's Mark Speer, Laura Lee and DJ Johnson lay down that trademark dusty, reverb-soaked groove, and Bridges' smooth, classic soul voice glides right over it. "B-Side" struts, "Mariella" and "Doris" sway, and "Father Father" closes things on a gentle, gospel-touched note. Pair it with Texas Sun and you've got a perfect day, sunrise to moonrise.
