Arthur Verocai's lush 1972 Brazilian cult classic, orchestral soul, jazz and psychedelic MPB: "Na Boca do Sol," "Caboclo" and "Sylvia."
Barely noticed at first, Arthur Verocai's debut has become one of the most sought-after Brazilian albums ever, sampled by MF DOOM, Ludacris, Madlib and many more.
Rio de Janeiro arranger Arthur Verocai, who worked with Elis Regina, Jorge Ben and Ivan Lins, poured everything into his own 1972 album: sweeping strings, funky drums, wah-wah guitar, jazzy horns and dreamy vocals, blending MPB, soul and psychedelia.
"Na Boca do Sol" is a gorgeous, much-sampled groove, "Caboclo" opens with lush drama, and "Sylvia" and "Seriado" float on beautiful arrangements. A crate digger's holy grail.
