Rob Zombie's 1998 solo debut Hellbilly Deluxe in a gatefold jacket, with "Dragula," "Living Dead Girl" and "Superbeast."
Geffen's reissue comes in a gatefold jacket with an insert sheet. Hellbilly Deluxe went triple platinum in the U.S., peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and No. 2 in Canada, and remains Zombie's best-selling album.
Leaving a successful band is a gamble, but Rob Zombie walked out of White Zombie with a clear plan: more horror, more groove, more B-movie dialogue. He built Hellbilly Deluxe at The Chop Shop in Hollywood between August 1997 and June 1998, co-producing with Scott Humphrey, and turned his love of monster movies, hot rods and drive-in schlock into a full-length nightmare carnival.
"Dragula" is the big one, a stomping, industrial hot-rod anthem that still turns up everywhere from video games to Halloween parties. "Living Dead Girl" slinks and swaggers, "Superbeast" (produced by Charlie Clouser) earned a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance, and Mötley Crüe's Tommy Lee drums on "Meet the Creeper." Guitarist Mike Riggs, bassist Blasko and drummer John Tempesta make up the core band, and Sheri Moon Zombie narrates the opening "Call of the Zombie."
"Dragula" and "Living Dead Girl" both went top ten on the mainstream rock chart. The album outsold everything White Zombie ever put out, which is a very civil way to win an argument with yourself.
