About the album

Some pop stars follow a breakthrough by playing it safe. Lady Gaga brought in a heavy metal guitarist, an E Street saxophonist and a techno pulse. Working with Fernando Garibay and RedOne, she built Born This Way out of synth-pop, disco, house, rock and roll and stadium rock, with Gaga and Garibay as its musical directors.

The title track spent six weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 and became the fastest-selling single in iTunes history at the time. "Judas" is a thundering club stomper, "The Edge of Glory" closes with Clarence Clemons' saxophone soaring over the top, and "Yoü and I" brings in Queen's Brian May for a big-boots rock ballad. "Marry the Night" opens with a burst of synth fireworks, and "Bloody Mary" went viral on TikTok and became a single eleven years later. The third LP collects the Reimagined versions plus a country road take on the title track.

It earned three Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year, and Rolling Stone added it to its 500 Greatest Albums in 2020. The bonus LP means you can now argue with yourself about which version is better, which saves inviting people round.
