About the album

Khruangbin have always said they write their music to be interpreted, so handing Mordechai to ten people they admire was less a gamble than a natural next step. Laura Lee Ochoa, Mark Speer and Donald "DJ" Johnson chose the names, and the result plays like a long, sunny DJ set that drifts from soul and dub into house and disco.

Quantic turns "Pelota" into the "Cut a Rug Mix," Felix Dickinson stretches "Time (You and I)" into a disco glide, and Soul Clap's "If There Is No Question" goes wild, but not crazy, as promised. Kadhja Bonet opens with "Father Bird, Mother Bird," Ginger Root and Harvey Sutherland bring their touring-buddy shorthand, Knxwledge (who once sampled the band's "White Gloves") flips "Dearest Alfred," Ron Trent builds "Shida" into a suite, and Mang Dynasty gives "So We Won't Forget" a fresh coat.

Natasha Diggs adds a Soul in the Horn remix of "First Class," and Harvey Sutherland's "Forget Me Nots Dub" of "One to Remember" brings the lights down gently. It's a lovely companion to the original, built for the late-night end of a dinner party. Fair warning: the dinner party may run long.
