About the album

Most bands would be thrilled to play the Sydney Opera House once. Khruangbin booked three nights, sold them all, and had the good sense to roll tape. The Houston trio of Laura Lee Ochoa, Mark Speer and DJ Johnson brought it out on Dead Oceans in December 2023 as the last stop in a run of live albums that also caught them at Stubb's in Austin, Radio City Music Hall, The Fillmore in Miami and, closer to home for us, RBC Echo Beach in Toronto. Those came with special guests; this one is front-to-back Khruangbin.

The setlist roams across the whole catalogue, from "The Number 3" and "Two Fish and an Elephant" to "Maria Tambien," "So We Won't Forget," "Shida" and "Friday Morning," with a fresh Shifting Sands remix of "People Everywhere" and "A Calf Born in Winter" near the close. Live, the grooves stretch out and breathe, the kind of unhurried, hypnotic playing that turns a concert hall into a very elegant living room.

Thai rock, dub and American soul have never sat so comfortably in the same room, and the band earned a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist in 2024. Dim the lights, let side A run, and try not to look surprised when it's suddenly side D.
