Drab Majesty's 2019 third album Modern Mirror on black & red ripple vinyl, limited to 200 copies.
This Dais pressing comes on black & red ripple vinyl and is limited to 200 copies. Modern Mirror carried the singles "Ellipsis," "Oxytocin," "Long Division" and "Out of Sequence."
Deb Demure began as a kind of happy accident. Andrew Clinco was drumming for the Los Angeles band Marriages when he recorded some songs alone in his bedroom, played them back and felt as if someone else had made them, so he gave that someone a name, a look and a voice. Keyboardist Alex Nicolaou joined as Mona D in 2016, and Drab Majesty became a duo.
Their third album is the sleekest form of what Demure calls tragic wave: chiming, '80s-influenced guitars, cool synths and commanding vocals with an otherworldly edge. Joshua Eustis produced and mixed it with Demure co-producing, and the songs, from "A Dialogue" and "Dolls in the Dark" to "Oxytocin" and "Long Division," glide like a late-night drive through neon. Demure's guitar heroes include Vini Reilly of The Durutti Column and Maurice Deebank of Felt, and you can hear them in every shimmering line.
The duo later toured North America opening for Slowdive and recorded with Rachel Goswell. Two hundred copies is not a large number, and the costume budget, we suspect, is considerably larger.
