Alexisonfire's 2009 album Old Crows / Young Cardinals as a 2LP set cut at 45 RPM, with "Young Cardinals," "The Northern" and bonus tracks "Wayfarer Youth" and "Two Sisters."
This Dine Alone 2LP set runs at 45 RPM and adds "Wayfarer Youth" and "Two Sisters" on side D. It debuted at No. 81 on the Billboard 200, the St. Catharines band's highest US chart placing.
In early 2009 Wade MacNeil told the band's studio blog that, for the first time ever, they had too many songs, which is a lovely problem for a post-hardcore band to have. Alexisonfire spent February at the Armoury in Vancouver with engineer Nick Blagona, then brought the tapes home to Silo Studios in Hamilton to co-produce with longtime collaborator Julius Butty.
The result lets more rock and roll into the screamo storm, with George Pettit's roar and Dallas Green's clean, soaring voice trading the spotlight. "Young Cardinals" is the rallying cry, and its video was shot in Niagara Falls, Ontario. "The Northern" goes wide and lonely, "No Rest" was the second song previewed online, "Midnight Regulations" was among the first finished in Vancouver, and "Emerald Street" began life as "Emerald St." on the demo list. Paul Jackson made the paintings and collage for the sleeve.
They took it on the Warped Tour, to Reading and Leeds, and across Canada with Billy Talent. Dallas Green was running City and Colour on the side at the same time, which makes our own claims to be busy look rather thin.
