Rush's 1981 album Moving Pictures on 200g vinyl, remastered at Abbey Road, with "Tom Sawyer," "Limelight" and "YYZ."
This 200g pressing was remastered by Sean Magee at Abbey Road using Direct Metal Mastering and comes with a lyric inner sleeve. Moving Pictures hit No. 1 in Canada, went five times platinum in the US and is the fastest-selling album in Rush's catalogue.
Rush were supposed to make a live album in 1980. During a stop in New York the trio decided they had too many good ideas from soundchecks to wait, cancelled the plan, and retreated to Stony Lake, Ontario, to write. Alex Lifeson later called it the most important change of plan since 2112.
They recorded at Le Studio in Morin Heights, Quebec, with longtime co-producer Terry Brown, aiming for tighter, punchier songs. "Tom Sawyer" grew out of a lyric by Pye Dubois, the wordsmith for fellow Canadians Max Webster, and opens with that unforgettable synth growl. "Red Barchetta" is a cinematic joyride, "Limelight" is Neil Peart's wry look at fame, and the instrumental "YYZ" takes its name and its Morse code rhythm from the call sign of Toronto's Pearson airport. "The Camera Eye" stretches out for ten minutes, and "Vital Signs" hints at the reggae and new wave colours to come.
Rolling Stone placed it among the 500 greatest albums of all time, and "YYZ" earned a Grammy nomination. Nobody who has flown into Pearson can hear that rhythm without checking for their passport.
