Rush's 1975 second album Fly by Night on 200g vinyl, remastered at Abbey Road, with "Anthem," "By-Tor & the Snow Dog" and the title song.
This 200g edition was remastered by Sean Magee at Abbey Road and cut with Direct Metal Mastering. It was Neil Peart's first album with Rush and reached No. 9 in Canada.
Rush auditioned five drummers in the summer of 1974. The fourth, Neil Peart of the local band J.R. Flood, played along to a song called "Anthem," and Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee were so impressed they felt sorry for the fifth man. Peart joined on July 29, 1974, two weeks before the band's first US tour, and soon became their lyricist too. His arrival settled the line-up after John Rutsey stepped away for health reasons.
They wrote on the road and recorded Fly by Night at Toronto Sound Studios in the last week of December 1974, in about five days, with Terry Brown co-producing for the first time. Peart's fantasy and philosophy changed everything: "Anthem" opens at full tilt, "By-Tor & the Snow Dog" is their first multi-part epic, "Rivendell" is a gentle acoustic visit to Middle-earth, and the title song caught on as a single when it was reissued in 1976.
Once the mixing was done they packed the cases and headed for Winnipeg to start the Fly by Night tour on January 15. Peart joined on Geddy's 21st birthday, which, for a bass player, beats a new set of strings.
