Run-D.M.C.'s 1986 landmark Raising Hell, the first multi-platinum hip-hop album, with "Walk This Way," "My Adidas" and "It's Tricky."
Raising Hell was the first hip-hop album to go platinum and then multi-platinum, and "Walk This Way" with Aerosmith tore down the wall between rap and rock.
Before Raising Hell, hip-hop albums didn't go platinum. Then Run, D.M.C. and Jam Master Jay walked into the studio with Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin, and walked out with a record that went platinum in two months and triple platinum within a year.
"Walk This Way," their team-up with Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, became a crossover smash and put rap all over MTV. "My Adidas" landed the group a sneaker deal of their own, "It's Tricky" borrows the Knack's "My Sharona" riff, and "Peter Piper" and "Perfection" show off Jay's turntable wizardry.
It reached No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the R&B chart, and it's widely considered one of the most important albums in hip-hop history. Lace up your shell-toes.
