Menahan Street Band: Make the Road by Walking [DUNHAM / DAPTONE]

Why you'll love it

Make the Road by Walking is a cornerstone of the Daptone sound, a dusty, cinematic instrumental soul record whose title track Jay-Z sampled on "Roc Boys (And the Winner Is)..."

About the album

Guitarist and producer Thomas Brenneck started Menahan Street Band in his Brooklyn apartment on Menahan Street with friends from Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Antibalas, the Budos Band and El Michels Affair. The result is warm, moody instrumental soul with horns, vibes and grooves straight out of a lost '70s film.

The title track's horn line became famous when Jay-Z built "Roc Boys" around it, and "Tired of Fighting," "Home Again!" and "Karina" are just as soulful. Perfect for Sunday mornings and late-night drives.
