About the album

In the early '70s Al Green and producer Willie Mitchell made a string of records at Royal Studios in Memphis that are about as close to perfect as soul music gets: Al Jackson Jr.'s laid-back drums, the Hi Rhythm Section's warm, low-slung grooves, the Memphis Horns, and Green's falsetto floating over the top like it's the easiest thing in the world.

Greatest Hits gathers the cream of that run: "Let's Stay Together," "I'm Still in Love with You," "Tired of Being Alone," "Call Me (Come Back Home)," "Here I Am (Come and Take Me)" and his gorgeous take on the Bee Gees' "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart." It reached the Top 5 on the soul albums chart and has never gone out of style.
