About the album

Here's the funny thing about Earth, Wind & Fire's first greatest hits album: its biggest song wasn't on any of their studio albums. Maurice White recorded "September" as a brand new single to launch the collection in November 1978 (along with "Love Music"), and it went on to become one of the most-played party songs on the planet. Every 21st of September, like clockwork.

The rest is a who's-who of '70s funk, soul and disco glory: the horn-blasting "Shining Star," the dreamy "Fantasy," a turbo-charged cover of the Beatles' "Got to Get You into My Life," Philip Bailey's soaring falsetto on "Reasons" and the gospel-tinged "That's the Way of the World." It peaked at No. 3 on the soul chart, went five times platinum and has never gone out of style.
