![Hailu Mergia & Dahlak Band: Wede Harer Guzo (2LP) [AWESOME TAPES FROM AFRICA]](https://cdn.shoplightspeed.com/shops/621399/files/45556039/1652x1652x2/new-vinyl-hailu-mergia-dahlak-band-wede-harer-guzo.jpg)
Hailu Mergia and the Dahlak Band's Wede Harer Guzo on 2LP, a rare 1970s Ethiopian groove classic reissued by Awesome Tapes From Africa.
Hailu Mergia is one of the great Ethiopian keyboardists, and this long-lost cassette is a gem of the golden age of Addis Ababa's music scene.
Keyboardist and accordionist Hailu Mergia was a star of Addis Ababa's swinging 70s nightclub scene, best known for his work with the Walias Band. With the Dahlak Band, he recorded this joyful, hypnotic mix of Ethiopian melodies, funk, soul and jazz.
Swirling organ, warm horns and tight, rolling grooves make it irresistible from start to finish. Brought back to life by Brian Shimkovitz's Awesome Tapes From Africa, the label that also helped relaunch Mergia's career.
