Foo Fighters' 2005 double album In Your Honor as a 2LP set on 180g vinyl, one disc of loud rock and one of acoustic songs, with "Best of You" and "DOA."
This 180g 2LP set keeps the album's split intact, with the heavy songs on one record and the acoustic set on the other. In Your Honor reached No. 2 in both the US and the UK, topped the charts in five countries including Australia, and picked up five Grammy nominations.
Ten years in, Dave Grohl felt the Foo Fighters needed to break new ground, and he'd been quietly piling up acoustic songs while toying with the idea of a film score. Instead of choosing between the two sides of the band, he gave each its own record, cut with co-producer Nick Raskulinecz at the band's newly built studio in Northridge, Los Angeles.
The rock disc hits hard: "No Way Back" and "Resolve" are pure arena fuel, "Hell" is a short, sharp shock and "The Last Song" slams the door. On the acoustic side Norah Jones duets on "Virginia Moon," Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones adds piano to "Miracle" and mandolin to "Another Round," and Josh Homme plays guitar on "Razor." Taylor Hawkins steps up to sing lead on "Cold Day in the Sun."
It was also the first album to feature keyboardist Rami Jaffee, years before he joined full-time, and the tour that followed mixed stadium shows with intimate acoustic nights. Grohl managed two albums at once, which is roughly how long it takes us to decide which disc to play first.
