Foo Fighters live at Toronto's Concert Hall on April 3, 1996, from the radio broadcast of their first-album tour, with "Big Me" and "I'll Stick Around."
This limited LP captures the FM broadcast of a young Foo Fighters at the Concert Hall on Yonge Street. The set runs through most of the debut album plus early airings of "Enough Space" and "Up in Arms," which turned up on The Colour and the Shape a year later.
In the spring of 1996 Foo Fighters were still a brand-new band. Dave Grohl had made the first album practically on his own, then recruited Pat Smear, Nate Mendel and William Goldsmith to take it on the road, and on April 3 the tour rolled into the old Masonic Temple at Yonge and Davenport, better known to Toronto concertgoers as the Concert Hall.
The set is all energy. "Winnebago," "Wattershed," "For All the Cows," "Weenie Beenie" and "Big Me" fly by, "Alone & Easy Target" and "I'll Stick Around" hit hard, and the encore brings a cover of Gary Numan's "Down in the Park" before "Exhausted" closes the night.
Grohl has since filled stadiums all over the world, but there's something special about hearing the band this close, in a Toronto room that holds a fraction of that. If you were there, you're probably still telling people. Fair enough.
