About the album

Every so often an artist names an album after exactly what they're doing, and Recovery is that record. After the horror-movie voices of Relapse, Eminem came back clear-eyed, introspective and furious in the best way, rapping about anxiety, sobriety and getting his life back on track.

For the first time he leaned mostly on outside producers: Alex da Kid, Just Blaze, Boi-1da, Jim Jonsin and Havoc join DJ Khalil, Mr. Porter and Dr. Dre. "Not Afraid" is the rallying cry, "Love The Way You Lie" with Rihanna became a global smash, "No Love" pairs him with Lil Wayne over a Haddaway flip, "Won't Back Down" brings in Pink and "Space Bound" is a dark, aching slow-burner. "Cinderella Man" and "Going Through Changes," built on a Black Sabbath sample, round out a record full of big hooks.

"Not Afraid" and "Love The Way You Lie" both hit No. 1 on the Hot 100, and the album picked up a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year. Finding a home for Haddaway on an Eminem record is the sort of cross-cultural diplomacy we can all get behind.
