About the album

Two years is a long wait in K-pop, and Blinks had been counting the days since The Album. Born Pink arrived as what the group called the essence of Blackpink: Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa leaning harder on hip-hop and stadium-sized hooks, with most of the lyrics in English.

"Pink Venom" kicks things off and topped the charts in ten countries. "Shut Down" flips Paganini's "La Campanella" into a swaggering victory lap, "Typa Girl" struts, and "Yeah Yeah Yeah," co-written by Jisoo and Rosé, has a breezy pop-rock lift. "Hard to Love" has a disco shimmer, "Tally" is all self-confidence, and "Ready for Love" closes on a big, bright chorus. Longtime YG producer Teddy Park leads the production team, with 24, Freddy Wexler and others in the mix, and the whole record moves at a brisker clip than its predecessor, borrowing from disco, bubblegum pop and stadium rock along the way.

The Born Pink World Tour that followed became the highest-grossing tour ever by a female group. Eight songs, four members and one clear disc, which is roughly how our staff schedule looks on a K-pop restock day.
