![Alice Coltrane: Journey in Satchidananda [IMPULSE!]](https://cdn.shoplightspeed.com/shops/621399/files/33149868/1652x1652x2/new-vinyl-alice-coltrane-journey-in-satchidananda.jpg)
Alice Coltrane's transcendent 1971 spiritual jazz classic Journey in Satchidananda with Pharoah Sanders: the title track, "Shiva-Loka" and "Isis and Osiris."
Journey in Satchidananda is a pillar of spiritual jazz, Alice Coltrane's shimmering harp and Pharoah Sanders's soprano saxophone creating music of rare peace and beauty.
Recorded partly in her home studio in Dix Hills, New York, the album blends modal jazz with Indian drones, tambura and oud, with bassists Cecil McBee and Charlie Haden and drummer Rashied Ali.
The title track rides a hypnotic, deep bass groove under Coltrane's glistening harp, "Shiva-Loka" is serene and meditative, "Stopover Bombay" is brief and bright, "Something About John Coltrane" is a moving tribute, and "Isis and Osiris" is a captivating live finale.
Best played when the house has gone quiet and the kettle has just boiled.
