About the album

Ryo Fukui was a Sapporo-based pianist who largely taught himself to play in his twenties and went on to run the Slowboat jazz club with his wife Yasuko. Scenery, his first album, is a warm, swinging piano trio session that mixes standards with his own writing.

His touch is graceful and full of feeling, from a sparkling "It Could Happen to You" to a lovely "Autumn Leaves" and the gorgeous title track. A perfect entry point to the world of Japanese jazz.
