Vincent Price's 1969 spoken-word double album Witchcraft-Magic: An Adventure in Demonology as a 2LP set on flickering orange flame vinyl.
Real Gone presses this 2LP set on flickering orange flame vinyl. The 1969 Capitol double album is a spoken-word history of witchcraft narrated by Price, with eerie, abstract electronic music drifting underneath.
If you're going to learn about demonology from anyone, it may as well be the man with the most elegantly sinister voice in horror. In 1969 Capitol gave Vincent Price two whole LPs to walk listeners through the history of witchcraft, from biblical times through the Middle Ages and the Spanish Inquisition to the modern day, delivered in that velvety, faintly amused baritone.
Terry d'Oberoff wrote the script, and the chapters run from The Tale of Master Seth through witches in history, the world of spirits and demons, the instruments of magic and how to invoke unseen forces, on to curses, spells, charms and potions, before closing with witchcraft today and an epilogue. Occasional electronic music creeps in behind the narration, which makes the whole thing feel even stranger on a dark evening. It's equal parts history lecture and campfire story, and Price clearly relishes every grisly footnote.
Some copies of the original came with an eight-page booklet, and the album went more than 50 years without a vinyl reissue until Real Gone brought it back in 2024. We'd recommend the history lessons and leave the practical chapters to the professionals.
