About the album

For a whole generation, the sound of quiet, contemplative block-building is Daniel Rosenfeld's music. Working as C418, the German composer wrote the gentle piano and synth pieces that drift in and out of Minecraft, and Volume Beta is his second collection of them: longer, more varied and a little more adventurous than the first volume, with everything from glacial ambient washes to the bouncing synth pulse of "Aria Math."

It works as nostalgia, sure, but it also stands up as a genuinely lovely ambient record in the Brian Eno and Aphex Twin tradition, the kind of thing that makes a rainy afternoon of reading or studying feel just right. Ghostly International pressed it up properly, and on red vinyl it looks the part, too.
