Debut full-length from Hamilton's The Dirty Nil, the record that won them the 2017 Juno for Breakthrough Group of the Year. On Dine Alone Records.
Higher Power is the debut that broke The Dirty Nil: a year after it came out they took the 2017 Juno for Breakthrough Group of the Year. It holds "No Weaknesses", "Zombie Eyed" and the gloriously titled "Wrestle Yü To Hüsker Dü", all eleven songs done in under 27 minutes.
By 2016 The Dirty Nil had spent the better part of a decade on 7"s and EPs, so the first proper album hit with the force of everything saved up. Higher Power came out in February 2016; the band produced it with Shehzaad Jiwani and Adam Bentley, and "No Weaknesses" led the way as the single.
The songs are short and loud, and the jokes are part of the charge ("Know Your Rodent", "Bruto Bloody Bruto"). Videos followed for "Zombie Eyed", "Wrestle Yü To Hüsker Dü" and "Friends In The Sky", and the record carried the band from Hamilton bars to the Juno stage.
