About the album

Supergroups are supposed to take years. The Dead Weather were barely a year old when they went back into Jack White's Third Man Studio in Nashville in December 2009 and came out with a second album, tighter and nastier than the first. The band itself grew from a Raconteurs tour stop in Memphis, when White lost his voice and Mosshart stepped in to sing.

Alison Mosshart of The Kills sings lead, White produces and plays drums, Dean Fertita of Queens of the Stone Age handles guitar and keys, and Jack Lawrence of The Greenhornes holds down the bass. "Blue Blood Blues" opens with a swagger, "Die By The Drop" turns Mosshart and White into a snarling duet, and "I Can't Hear You" later turned up in the film Crazy, Stupid, Love. "Hustle And Cuss" and "Jawbreaker" keep the fuzz turned all the way up.

"Blue Blood Blues" also closed out season two of Eastbound & Down. It's a blues rock record made by people who clearly enjoy loud amplifiers, and the neighbours will be among the first to know.
