About the album

Blue Meanies, the Sea of Holes and a submarine painted the colour of sunshine: the film is a psychedelic delight, and its soundtrack is a sweet, strange corner of the Beatles catalogue. Side one has the songs, side two has George Martin's orchestral score.

The real treasures are the four songs that turned up here first. John's "Hey Bulldog" is a barking, piano-driven rocker, Paul's "All Together Now" is a nursery-rhyme singalong, and George contributes two of his trippiest, "Only a Northern Song" and the glorious, sprawling "It's All Too Much." "Yellow Submarine" and "All You Need Is Love" round out the set.

It arrived two months after the White Album and reached the top five in the UK and US. For completists it's essential, and for anyone who grew up on the film, it's pure joy.
