![Talk Talk: Laughing Stock [VERVE / POLYDOR]](https://cdn.shoplightspeed.com/shops/621399/files/35216163/1652x1652x2/new-vinyl-talk-talk-laughing-stock-verve-polydor.jpg)
Talk Talk's 1991 masterpiece Laughing Stock, a landmark of post-rock: "New Grass," "Ascension Day," "After the Flood" and "Myrrhman."
Laughing Stock is one of the most revered albums ever made, a hushed, improvised, spiritual record that helped invent post-rock.
Mark Hollis, Lee Harris and producer Tim Friese-Greene built Laughing Stock from long, improvised sessions with an array of guest musicians, carefully editing the results into six slow-unfolding pieces full of silence, space and sudden bursts of noise.
"Myrrhman" opens with breathtaking stillness, "Ascension Day" erupts with ragged intensity, "After the Flood" builds hypnotically, and the nine-minute "New Grass" is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever recorded.
Leave the silences alone; they're part of the music.
