About the album

In 1996 Michael Jordan swapped the Bulls for Bugs Bunny, and somebody at Warner had the bright idea of giving the film a soundtrack every bit as starry as its cast. The result was a mixtape of the moment: R&B ballads, party rap, a bit of funk and a few surprises, all bouncing around the same court.

Seal opens with a moody cover of the Steve Miller Band's "Fly Like an Eagle," which made its debut here. Quad City DJ's supply the irresistible title track, Monica brings "For You I Will," and "Hit 'Em High," the Monstars' anthem, packs B-Real, Busta Rhymes, Coolio, LL Cool J and Method Man into one huddle. Coolio returns for "The Winner," "Upside Down ('Round-N-'Round)" leans on Diana Ross, and "Basketball Jones" and "That's the Way (I Like It)" keep the party going.

For a lot of 90s kids it was the first CD they ever owned, and it still sounds like Saturday afternoon. The film lasted 88 minutes; the soundtrack has stayed in the starting lineup rather longer.
