About the album

Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones formed Savage Garden in 1994, and within three years they were everywhere. After "I Want You" took off, Columbia signed them and sent them to Sydney for eight months to write, and most of this album came out of that stretch, recorded with producer Charles Fisher.

This edition goes back to the version the band wanted. The international album dropped "Mine," one of Hayes's favourites, and "All Around Me," and reshuffled the order to put the hits up front; here both songs return and the original Australian sequence is restored. "I Want You" is a breathless electro-pop rush that hit No. 1 in Canada, "To the Moon & Back" is moody and glittering, and "Truly Madly Deeply" became the most-played song on American radio in 1997, taking over the top of the Billboard Hot 100 from Elton John.

The album spent 19 weeks at No. 1 in Australia and won the duo a record ten ARIA Awards in a single year. Hayes wrote the chorus of "Truly Madly Deeply" over dinner in Kings Cross, which is rather more than we've ever managed over a sandwich.
