The Saturday Night Fever soundtrack as a 2LP set, the Bee Gees-led disco landmark with "Stayin' Alive," "Night Fever" and "How Deep Is Your Love."
This 2LP set comes in a gatefold jacket with the full double album across four sides. The soundtrack sold more than 40 million copies, spent 24 straight weeks at No. 1 in the US, won the Grammy for Album of the Year and gave the charts four No. 1 singles.
The film was a modest project called Tribal Rites of a Saturday Night when producer Robert Stigwood rang the Bee Gees in France to ask if they had any songs lying around. John Travolta had been rehearsing to Stevie Wonder and Boz Scaggs. The brothers Gibb then wrote the core of the soundtrack virtually in a single weekend at the Château d'Hérouville, and disco was never quite the same.
Side one alone is "Stayin' Alive," "How Deep Is Your Love," "Night Fever," "More Than a Woman" and Yvonne Elliman's "If I Can't Have You." The rest is a proper night out, with Walter Murphy's "A Fifth of Beethoven," Tavares' take on "More Than a Woman," Kool & the Gang's "Open Sesame," KC and the Sunshine Band's "Boogie Shoes," MFSB's "K-Jee" and The Trammps' "Disco Inferno," plus David Shire's score pieces "Manhattan Skyline" and "Night on Disco Mountain."
In Canada it sat at No. 1 for 22 weeks, and in 2012 the Library of Congress added it to the National Recording Registry. We'd advise clearing the coffee table before side one; the white suit is optional.
