About the album

Alex Giannascoli had been making records in his Philadelphia bedroom for years and playing guitar for Frank Ocean, and by his seventh album he could go anywhere he liked. On Rocket he wanders happily between country fiddle, hushed folk and noisy experiments.

He wrote and produced it himself, and announced it in March 2017 with "Bobby" and "Witch" as the first two singles. "Bobby" is a sweet country duet with fiddle, "Proud" and "County" drift by in a warm, rambling glow, "Witch" is eerie and lovely, "Brick" is a sudden blast of noise, and "Sportstar" bends his voice into something strange and catchy. Colin Acchione, who directed the "Bobby" video, plays bass on two tracks, and "Proud" got its own video in April. DIY called it his catchiest record yet, and The Quietus heard a career-defining moment.

Consequence of Sound called it his most developed and accomplished album to date, and The A.V. Club found it thrilling and affecting. He also changed his billing to (Sandy) Alex G a few weeks before it came out, which kept our label printer on its toes.
