About the album

Sam Smith spent more than three years writing Hazel Eyes with a very small circle of friends, most of all their longtime collaborator Simon Aldred, and much of it took shape in New York, the city they now call home. They co-produced with Aldred and David Odlum, with Feist, Shahzad Ismaily and Rob Moose all contributing and some sessions held at Electric Lady Studios.

It's an intimate, romantic record built on warm acoustic arrangements and a choir that turns up like sunlight. "Love Is a Stillness" arrived on Valentine's Day 2025, "To Be Free" is a single vocal and guitar take Smith had written five years earlier, and the title track, "Everlasting" and "Constant Companion" carry the album's tender glow. Smith took many of the songs on the road first during the To Be Free residency, with Norah Jones, Hozier, Brandi Carlile and Ed Sheeran among the guests who joined them on stage.

Smith has said the album taught them many life lessons and that they documented all of them in the music. The cover of "Love Is a Stillness" starred their tortoises, Fish and Chips, who have so far declined all interview requests.
