Sade's 1985 album Promise, a UK and US number one: "The Sweetest Taboo," "Is It a Crime?" and "Never as Good as the First Time." Half-speed master.
Promise topped the charts in both the UK and the US, and helped Sade win the Grammy for Best New Artist. This edition was half-speed mastered at Abbey Road.
Sade Adu and her bandmates Stuart Matthewman, Andrew Hale and Paul S. Denman built on their debut Diamond Life with more live instrumentation and an even smoother, more sophisticated blend of soul, jazz and quiet storm R&B.
"The Sweetest Taboo" is silky perfection, "Is It a Crime?" is a dramatic, soaring torch song, "Never as Good as the First Time" grooves, and "Jezebel" and "Maureen" are gorgeous. This reissue recreates the original packaging.
