![The RH Factor: Hard Groove (2LP, Verve By Request) [VERVE]](https://cdn.shoplightspeed.com/shops/621399/files/59976696/1652x1652x2/new-vinyl-the-rh-factor-hard-groove-2lp-verve-by-r.jpg)
Roy Hargrove's 2003 jazz, funk and neo-soul summit Hard Groove with the RH Factor, on 2LP in the Verve By Request series: "I'll Stay," "Hardgroove" and "Common Free Style."
Hard Groove brought trumpeter Roy Hargrove together with stars of neo-soul and hip-hop, and "I'll Stay" earned a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group.
Recorded at Electric Lady Studios in New York with a ten-piece band, Hard Groove was Hargrove's tribute to his childhood love of hip-hop, funk and soul, with guests including D'Angelo, Erykah Badu, Common, Q-Tip and Meshell Ndegeocello.
The title track struts with horn-section swagger, "I'll Stay" is a lush slow jam, "Common Free Style" is loose and fun, and Hargrove's trumpet soars throughout. A brilliant meeting of jazz and the Soulquarians sound.
