Pink Floyd's complete Dark Side of the Moon live at Wembley Empire Pool in November 1974, on 180g vinyl in a gatefold jacket with two posters.
This 180g LP comes in a gatefold jacket with a new 2023 cover by Aubrey Powell of Hipgnosis and StormStudios, plus two posters. It captures the band playing the whole album in order at Wembley, long after the songs had been road-tested to perfection.
Before it was an album, The Dark Side of the Moon was a stage show. Pink Floyd were playing the suite live in 1972, a year before the record came out, so by the time they reached Wembley Empire Pool in November 1974 they knew every heartbeat and every cash register by heart. The show was a full production by then, with a circular screen, lights and sound effects, and the band played the suite as the centrepiece of the night.
David Gilmour, Roger Waters, Richard Wright and Nick Mason play it start to finish, from "Speak to Me" and "Breathe" through "On the Run," "Time" and "Money" to the closing pair of "Brain Damage" and "Eclipse." Backing singers and saxophonist Dick Parry fill out the sound, "The Great Gig in the Sky" soars, and "Us and Them" drifts out beautifully into that huge room.
The recording first surfaced in the album's 50th anniversary box set in 2023, and here it stands on its own with the heartbeat graphic still front and centre. Fifty years on, it remains the most polite way we know to tell the neighbours you've upgraded your speakers.
